This mixed housing development with 165 social and affordable homes was realised as a Design-Production Partnership. This method meant we could work with the company from the project’s very start, from the very first call for proposals.

We recommended a design that combined a contemporary style with local (traditional) materials to ensure balance with the existing site. Work on the footings, render colours and shutters helped create an elegant and understated style. This is highlighted by varied volumes (balconies, different heights, roof terraces).

The overall layout gives the development a green heart, a breathing space that connects the two buildings and provides a neat transition with the surrounding area.

THE DETAIL

For this development, the entrance halls were key. They are easily identified with their ornamental features and architectural elements (“folded” concrete that surrounds and highlights the entrances covering the full height of the buildings, contrasting with the stairwells’ vertical cladding).
